The short version

Who we are

Silent Era ("we", "us") makes the Silent Era app for iPhone and Android and the website silentera.app. This policy explains what information we handle and why. Questions: hello@silentera.app.

Your journal and notes: synced and encrypted

So you can use Silent Era on more than one device (for example an iPhone and an iPad) and keep everything if you get a new phone, these sync to your account:

  • Journal entries, titles and moods
  • Unsent messages
  • Daily check-ins and your last-contact date
  • What you felt when the urge hit (urge strength and what you hoped for)

The private text (journal titles and entries, unsent messages and check-in notes) is encrypted before it's stored with AES-256, using a key unique to your account. Your data can only be read when you sign in on your own devices. Access to the keys is limited to a very small number of authorized people, and we never read your journal.

Prefer not to sync? Turn off Sync my journal in You → Settings. Your journal and unsent messages are then removed from our servers and stay only on that phone (check-ins still sync for your no-contact count). If you lose that phone or delete the app, they can't be recovered.

Your scenes, items, yuzus and settings stay on your phone.

What leaves your phone, and why

  • Account: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your account ID and, if you allow it, your email, so you can restore your account and subscription.
  • Talk to Pip (Pro): when you chat, your messages, your 10 most recent journal entries and recent urge answers are sent to our servers and to our AI provider to generate Pip's reply. They are used only to answer you, not to train AI models or for advertising.
  • Speech to text (Pro): when you dictate, your voice is converted to text by your phone's speech service (Apple or Google).
  • Support circle: when you create an invite, we store a short code, a secret token and only what you chose to share (for example your no-contact streak, progress, last mood, or journal entries you picked), so the person you invited can see it on the web. Revoking an invite deletes that access straight away.
  • Cheers: when someone sends you a cheer, we store their name and message so it can appear in your room.
  • Community: posts and comments you share in Community are visible to other users. Posts are shown as anonymous, but avoid sharing details that identify you or anyone else.
  • Subscriptions: payments are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We receive whether your subscription is active, never your card details.

What we don't do

  • We never contact your ex or send anything to them.
  • We don't sell or rent your personal information.
  • We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.

The website

The breathing exercise and decorating on silentera.app run in your browser and aren't saved. Invite pages are hidden from search engines. We may use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics to count visits; if that changes, we will update this policy.

How long we keep data

We keep account and support-circle data while your account is active. Chat messages are kept only as long as needed to reply and keep the service safe. When you delete your account, we first delete your account's encryption key, so your journal and notes can never be read again, even from backups. We then delete the rest of the data we hold about you within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email hello@silentera.app and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also export your journal as a PDF and delete your account inside the app.

Age

Silent Era is not meant for children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Security

We use encryption in transit and limit who can access data. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked and avoid sharing sensitive details in Community.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
